Do you remember the Hairball, it was all about hair, you helped, it was great, 450 people showed up, it helped keep the doors open at IS183. Well that was last year, this year it’s all about Radioactive Bodega.

What the hell is that you may be asking, well, we are not exactly sure. We are probably talking about some huge mutant vegetables and fruits in typical bodega setting, maybe some more mutants thrown in just for fun, and the space is a huge industrial factory, 30 ft. ceilings. There are cranes, sandblasting rooms the size of a small house, welders, torches and other weird crap made of steel. Did you hear me, there are cranes, lots of them, we can hang stuff off the cranes, like the DJ. Oh and did I mention we have to heat the place somehow. This will be the most bizarre IS183 event yet and thus we need your creative input, lots of it.

Anyway, since we are not working with the typical four square walls as in the past, I thought we should invite some of the decorating crew from past events to take a look at the space. If you can make it and are interested in helping out, let me know, we are meeting there this Friday at 9:00 AM. The party is in March, so nothing urgent has to be done at the moment other than look at the space and dream stuff up. Should be a quick meeting just to see the space. Let me know if you can make it.

Seath Nash

We at the production committee would like to thank all the sponsors and businesses that dedicated money and goods to the 2009 IS183 Hair Ball party and silent auction.

We would also like to say a big Huzzah 1 and thank you to all the committee members and volunteers without which the IS183 Art School would not be able to survive.

We raised over $50,000 this year, the money which goes directly to supporting the school and the school’s efforts to bring superior art education to the Southern Berkshire County.

We are already scheming and planning next years event !

Hairball Central

You are on this list because you have either been fabulously creative on past IS183 decorating committees or are interested in helping this year. If you don’t remember building the four horsepower motorized chicken in 2008, this is all the more reason to get involved this year. It’s mid February, your skin is white, it’s time to get out of the house and do something fun with someone other than your kitty cat. The Hairball promises to be another bizarre party held March 14 Feb 11th at the new Shakespeare theater. We have lots of ideas for things to be constructed, glued and painted. We need to make crazy wigs and all sorts of things. So we are having a meeting this Wednesday night 7:00 PM. Please attend if you can, it will probably be the last meeting we have. However if you can’t make it, we will happily hook you up with a project. Please RSVP one choice below:

a) Yes I will be there Wednesday night, however I do not want to make a four horsepower chicken.

b) I can’t make it, but would like to help and am good at:___________________________ (making stuff, painting, sewing, gluing, conceptual ideas, writing copy, lighting etc.)

c) I have no interest in your ridiculous party, I like my white skin and 2 close friends

Seth and Kris Committee

To all Fellow Hairball-ers:

We are finalizing the silent auction now so that we can have an auction that flows smoothly and a fabulous auction handbook. If you have any outstanding auction solicitations out there, PLEASE finalize and get them to me ASAP. I am starting to layout auction booklet on Monday, February 17. The auction is a major money maker for this event and provides for a huge percentage of this event’s success. If you haven’t checked backed in with your potential donors, this a great excuse (“We are finalizing our auction program and we would really like to include you before it goes to print…”).

Thanks!

Message from Michelle Quigley on The HairBall Party colors

Howdy! For all who might want or need it I’ve attached a jpg of the poster (slightly less than the full size 11×17)

Will that work for you as a color reference? You might also grab a poster from the school and save yourself from having to print it (and possible color variation from a different printer).

Paint colors would ideally be:

Magenta or Hot Fuschia Pink

Purple

Deep Violet (a dark blue that leans towards purple)

White for mixing

Red

Light Blue (don’t need as much of the last two they’re mostly for highlights)

If we can only get 3 colors I’d go for

Magenta or Hot Fuschia Pink

Deep Violet (a dark blue that leans towards purple)

Red

I know I can scrounge up some white for mixing. Most of the paint stores have reject mixed colors in the back for a reduced price. Ask William if he can get us a deal at Caligari’s. If the paint from RtO is still kicking around there was a can of red that had a fair bit left.

On the wonders of Tyvek:
http://www.materialconcepts.com/products/tyvek/soft-structure/
It think I ended up calling there last time, they sell end rolls and give discounts to schools/non-profits.

Tyvek® Soft Structure Type 1443R – 1.25 oz/yd2
Type 14 styles offer excellent wet and dry protection against particulate matter and provide an excellent barrier. Type 14 has high opacity and good surface stability. Tyvek® meets all the requirements of the USA Flammable Fabrics Act, CA-191-53, for wearing apparel.*
